Twice an all-stater at South Bend Central…graduated in 1964 as Bears’ career, season, and single-game scoring leader…set Elkhart regional record with 43-pt game as a senior…moved on to UCLA, where he was Bruins’ floor general on two straight national championship squads…only player to ever captain 2 John Wooden coached teams…All-American as senior…started every game in his varsity career…academic All-American as a sophomore…inducted into the UCLA Hall of Fame and South Bend’s Hall of Fame…entered into acting career, earning Emmy nomination in 1983 for his performances in ‘Hill Street Blues’ on NBC. He won the NAACP’s Image Award in 1983 as best actor … very active in volunteer work, most notably with Special Olympics, Children’s Hospital, the Sunshine Foundation and the March of Dimes.
