A graduate of Vincennes High School, he received the 1945-1946 Kiwanis Award for Most Valuable Player. He was also named to the 1945-46 All-Sectional and All-Regional Teams. Orvis played 3 years of great varsity basketball at Butler under Tony Hinkle and was named the most valuable player for 2 years. His coaching experience took him to Eden High School and Alexandria High. During these years, his teams won the Anderson Sectional three times and the e.1.e. Championship and Co-Championship. Orvis holds a B.S. degree from Butler and an M.S. degree from Ball State. He is Principal of Alexandria Monroe High School.
