A 3-year letter winner at Terre Haute Garfield where he was also a champion track performer, All-State in football and also played baseball...twice Garfield's basketball MVP...captain and MVP of the 1958 Indiana All-Star team...Parade All-American...went on to record-breaking career at Purdue...named to Big 10 scholastic team...U.S. Olympic gold medalist...NBA rookie of the year in '63...all-star 3 of his 9 years in the league, despite career being interrupted by U.S. Army...MVP performer for Army all-Pacific champs...later assistant coach, then coach of all-Army basketball team...coached U.S. State Department goodwill basketball tour to Central America in '66.
