Greatest coaching years were at Terre Haute Gerstmeyer, where he coached for 27 years...'Sharpie' won 724 games in 47-year career...greatest years were at Terre Haute Gerstmeyer...gained berth in Final Four 4 times in 5 yrs in mid-50s, losing one to Bobby Plump's Milan, once to Oscar Robertson's Crispus Attucks champions, and again a yr later to Attucks...named national high school coach of year in '75...known through nation as 'Indiana's most colorful and enthusiastic basketball coach' and the evangelist of Indiana basketball...appeared at well over a thousand clinics and other speaking engagements with the likes of Adolph Rupe, Red Auerbach, Claire Bee and Henry Iba. He is past president of the Indiana Coaches Association.
