Led Hammond High to the state finals in 1938, his senior season...captained team that was runner-up to Fort Wayne South Side...All-State...a team leader for 3 seasons...also lettered in baseball...a 3-yr regular at Notre Dame Univ... All-American as senior in '42...played for Coach Tony Hinkle at Great Lakes Naval Training Center...after the war, played professional basketball with Indianapolis Kautskys, Toledo Jeeps and Sheboygan Redskins…player-coach of Hammond Bucaneers…also played professional baseball in the Chicago White Sox organization…managed for the Sox, and continued long association with that team…officiated Big Ten basketball 4 years.
