3-yr starter at Columbus...'Bird' was a forward as sophomore, then scored 286 points as a junior center...moved to guard senior year, scoring 370 points...led conference in scoring...set Columbus gym single-game scoring record...set sectional single game record junior season...2-time all conference...All-State recognition...attended Tulane but transferred to Cincinnati, sitting out sophomore season...as junior, started for '50 Bearcats. Teammates included Hall of Famers Barney Scott, Marvin Wood and Bill Shepherd.
