4-yr player for New Castle Trojans ... captained team senior year ... as a junior, helped Trojans earn berth in Muncie semistate, playing in game against Fort Wayne Central that featured five future college All- Americans -- Gib and his brother, Marvin, for New Castle, and Central's Curly Armstong, Herm Schaefer and Emile Sitko ... Gib was 4-yr player at Tennessee, captaining team his junior year ... All-American his senior season ... 3-time all-SEC selection ... though good shooter and playmaker, is considered by many as the Vols' all-time best defensive player. His two older brothers, Marvin and Vern, are also in the Hall of Fame.
