A four-year two-spot star at Indianapolis Broad Ripple, He captained the Rockets for two years under Hall of Fame coach Frank Baird. A 5'4 playmaker, he led the team to its first state finals in 1945. Ripple lost a memorable 37-35 afternoon game to two-time champion Evansville Bosse in which Allen matched up with mirror image, Broc Jerrell. Considered by Baird the leader of a team which featured future collegians Ralph Chapman and Dee Baker and professional Bob Dietz. He was the first recipient of the Trester Award (previously the Gimbel Award). Deceased.
