Captained French Lick to 2 consecutive 20-win seasons in '43 and '44, 3 decades before Larry Bird...twice suffered narrow regional losses (35-32 and 38-33) to powerful Jeffersonville teams...scored 15 pts and made Bill Fox's all-tourney team in regional appearance as senior...in a college career fractured by military service, played season as starting guard on 16-4 ISU team in '44, led Berea College in scoring one year, then played for 2 years for Tony Hinkle at Butler. In his first year of coaching in 1949, Cave guided Worthington to a 19-6 record and the school's first sectional crown. Following three years at Decatur Central, he took a demanding Frankfort job and led the Hotdogs to three sectional titles in four years. In 1954, the team had beat both Milan and Muncie Central during that season. He is now retired from Eli Lilly.
