A 6'6" center in days of center jump after each basket, Nowak once scored every point in a high school  game... recruited by coach Geo. Keogan at Notre Dame, he was 3-yr starter on team that won 62 games and lost only 8 ... teammates included All-American John Moir and future coaching legend Ray Meyer... named All-American after sophomore and junior seasons...rule change did away with center jump but he still captured All-American honors as senior... voted best center to play in Madison Square Garden each of his 3 years.
