Coached at Royerton, Connersville and Muncie Northside High Schools ,Four-year letter winner at Perry Central ...played baseball at Ball State...began a 26-year coaching career at Royerton (now Delta)... after 3 yrs as assistant, guided Royerton to 129-37 record in 7 seasons, including 3 county tourney championships and an undefeated season in 1961 ...in 1966 took over Connersville program, winning 93 games and 5 sectionals in 6 yrs, culminating in 1972 state championship...in that final, the Spartans won a 79-76 double-overtime game over Jeffersonville in the second afternoon game, then came back on three hours rest and stunned favored Gary West 80-63. He returned to Muncie where he coached Northside to a 158-68 mark over ten years, including four Olympic Conference titles and a 1975 semi-state appearance. He retired from coaching in 1982 with a career record of 380-158.
