Roger scored 1,649 career points at Dale High School as a 4-year varsity player. He was chosen as a member of the Indiana All-Star team in 1957. Following graduation he was a 3-year starter at Georgia Tech and was selected Most Valuable Player in the All-Southeast Conference for two years. He served his team as captain for two years and was named All American in 1960. He played ABA pro ball with Washington and Philadelphia.
