A Muncie Central graduate and a 3-letter man, his team won two Sectionals, one Regional, one Semi-state, and, in 1951, won the State Championship. He was the second leading scorer and the leader in assists and was an Indiana All-Star in 1951, All-NCC two years, and won the Conference in 1950. He played in the NCAA playoffs two years at the University of Colorado and was All-Regional in 1954 and was named to the All-Tourney Team in NCAA Finals in 1955. He was AAU All-American, also in 1955.
