'Butch' was the leading scorer and rebounder during his senior year at New Castle and was selected as an All-Conference and an All- State player. He was also chosen a member of the Indiana All-Star team. He then attended Indiana University and played for Hall of Famers Branch McCracken and Lou Watson. During his career at Indiana University he scored more than 1,000 points. At the time he was chosen a member of the 1988 Silver Anniversary team he was living in Phoenix, Arizona and worked for Van Arsdale Properties. He was President of the "I" Men's Club in 1968 and was winner of Indiana University's L.G. Balfour Athletic Award. He scored 1018 points while at IU. He was drafted by the Cincinnati Royals and Indiana Pacers.
