Michael was the co-captain and the leading scorer on the state runner-up team. He was selected all-sectional, all-regional, and all-semi-state and was a member of the Indiana All-Stars. He attended Illinois University and was co-captain and MVP in his senior year. He was the Big Ten free throw champion and was named the University of Illinois Athlete of the Year in 1970. He went on to play in the NBA with New York, Philadelphia and Indiana.
