Played only one yearof varsity basketball at Bedford High School and made the starting five in the first game he ever played... led Bedford into the State Finals in 1943 scoring 21 of his team's 35 points... received 4 year basketball scholarship to Notre Dame... chosen Helms Foundation All-American 1947, 1948, 1949... leading Notre Dame scorer and rebounder as a freshman... injuries forced him off the team in 1949-50 season and he became top assistant to Moose Krause... member of 1968 Silver Anniversary Team... deceased June, 1996.
