Few basketball teams attack the opposition with five star players. While five players will be on the court, only two or perhaps three players truly possess the talent and determination to be effective as a unit. Further, finding five talented players that played with a selfless attitude can be even more difficult. The East Chicago Washington Senators, the 1971 state champion, represent such a rare accomplishment. Much like the steel workers that worked at Inland Steedl Corporation and other steel manufacturing plants throughout East Chicago in the early 1970s, the Senators saw each other on a consistant basis as they grew up on the playgrounds playing the game they loved.
