Indianapolis Tech Defeats Cathedral in Championship Round

Cathedral vs. Jay County

The Cathedral Fighting Irish (3-2) and the Jay County Patriots (5-0) started off the 2012 City Securities Hall of Fame Classic Boys tournament Friday afternoon on December 28, 2012. 

Jay County came out with a quick two-point bucket to start the first quarter lead against Cathedral.  The Cathedral Fighting Irish caught up, tying the Jay County Patriots 10-10 at the end of the first quarter.  Coming out with a solid second quarter, Cathedral had the lead at the half, 28-22.  The Fighting Irish kept the lead at the end of the third as well at 41-31.  The fourth and final quarter was back and fourth as Jay County was not willing to give up.  The Patriots kept fighting, but Cathedral took over, taking a 53-47 semifinal win. 

Justin Baker led Cathedral in scoring with 11 points, and Jay County’s Brock McFarland led all scores of the game with 20. 

 Indianapolis Tech vs. Fort Wayne Northrop

Indianapolis Tech and Fort Wayne Northrop had a close back-and-forth first quarter with the score being 13-11 at the end of the first, Northrop leading by two.  Tech came out with intense energy in the second, leading Northrop 27-23 at the end of the first half.  Both teams playing hard, Tech continued their energy and outscored Northrop 26-16 in the third leading 53-39 at the end of the quarter.  After four quarters of play, Tech came out with the semifinal victory over Northrop, 72-59.

Indianapolis Tech’s Trey Lyles led his team with 19 points.  Fort Wayne Northrop’s Bryson Scott also led his team in scoring with a solid 19.

Consolation Game
Jay County vs. Fort Wayne Northrop

The Northrop Bruins came out in the first quarter with a quick two-point basket to get the first lead of the game.  By the end of the first quarter Northrop was on top 13-9 against the Jay County Patriots.  Both teams scored a solid 17 points in the second quarter giving Northrop the 30-26 lead at the end of the first half.  Northrop outscored Jay County 15-8 in the quarter following the half.  The score at the end of the third quarter was Northrop still on top, 45-34.  Although Jay County stayed alive and never gave up to their leading opponent, Fort Wayne Northrop continued their solid play and won the consolation game 60-51.

Jay County’s Scott Schwieterman led his team in scoring with 16 points.  Leading all scorers, Fort Wayne Northrop’s Bryson Scott ended with a solid 21 points in his team’s consolation win over the Patriots. 

Championship Game
Indianapolis Tech vs. Cathedral

Meeting for the 2nd time in three weeks, the Indianapolis Tech Titans played the Cathedral Fighting Irish in the 2012 City Securities Hall of Fame Classic boys’ championship game Friday, December 28, 2012. 

Indianapolis Tech scored the first two-point basket of the ball game giving its team the early lead.  With a slow 0-7 start for the Fighting Irish, they fought back and were only down 10-8 at the end of the first quarter.  With a competitive second quarter, Tech and Cathedral were tied at 23 at the end of the first half.  Tech outscored Cathedral by 10 points in the third, giving Tech a 47-37 lead at the end of three quarters.  With an extremely hard fought battle between both teams, Indianapolis Tech came out with the championship victory over Cathedral 60-54.

Mo Evans of Cathedral led his team in scoring with 19 points.  The 2012 Hall of Fame Classic MVP, Trey Myles, led his Indianapolis Tech team in scoring with 17.
