Each year the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame inducts one person into the Hall that has made a significant contribution to Indiana basketball in some fashion other than as a player or coach.  The 2008 St.Vincent Silver Medal Award will be presented to Pat McKee, assistant sports director of The Indianapolis Star.

Jacqueline K. Graham Burton - Crawfordsville High School 1964, Ball State BS 1968, MS 1973

 A member of GAA four years, holding the office as vice president as a junior and president as a senior.  Played volleyball as a sophomore and basketball junior and senior years at Ball State University.  Began coaching career at Columbus High School in 1970 where she began a girls basketball program.  Fifty girls tried out for the team the first season, the second season was expanded so that Columbus could play teams from Seymour and Bloomington.  In 1972 went to Columbus East and was head basketball coach for 10 years as well as assistant athletic director.  During years at Columbus East won two sectionals, two regionals, one semi-state and was state runner-up in 1980.  Coached Maria Stack 1980 Miss Basketball, assistant Indiana All-Star Coach  1980, 1980-81 worked for Pat Summit in her summer basketball camp, 1976-1982 ran the Park and Recreation girls basketball camp, HHC champs five years, HHC Coach of the Year twice, awarded the Jack Cramer Ideals in Athletic Award in 2000.

 

Mary Beth Schueth-Cain - Perry Meridian High School 1981, University of Notre Dame BS 1985, Indiana University 1989. Ten-sport letter winner at Perry Meridian in basketball, volleyball, and track.  1981 Marion County Coaches of Girl's Sports Female Athlete of the Year; 1979 National AAU 16 and under 1 on 1 champion; 1979-80 & 1980-81 Marion County scoring and rebounding leader; 1979-80 & 1980-81 Team Captain and MVP; 1979-80 and 1980-81 1st Team All City-County/Metro; 1981 Indiana All Star; 1981 UPI 1st Team All-State; 1981 AAU Honorable Mention All-American.  Four-year career school scoring record 1178, four-year career school rebounding record 926, average rebounds per game 14.5. Started 95 of 105 games for the University of Notre Dame, team Captain 1983-84 and 1984-85, career averages 11.7 ppg, 8.1 rpg. .503 FG%.  One of only five players in school history to post double-figure scoring averages in each of four years; one of only three players to lead team in rebounding all four of their seasons at Notre Dame; One of 15 players in school history to be selected as a two-time captain; 2nd all time steals in single game at Joyce Athletic Center; started 62 straight games 1981-84; as defensive player of the year in 1984, drew assignment of guarding Jackie Joyner of UCLA and Cheryl Miller of USC; scored 1000th point at Notre Dame against Cheryl Miller of USC.

 

Betty Lou Clark (Deceased) - Orleans High School 1970, Indiana State BS 1974, Indiana University MS 1979. Coached at Rochester 1976-1982 with an 85-39 record - two of her former players Shelly Newell and Laura Newcomb Titus have been recognized on the Silver Anniversary Team.  From 1982-1985 coached at Manchester College with a 71-66 record, in 1985-86 and 1986-87 won the Hoosier Conference for Women (HCW) Championship and received the HCW Coach of the Year Award in 1985.  Went to East Stroudsburg University in Pennsylvania in 1988 coached there until an auto accident took her life in January of 1991. 

 

Amy Metheny - Southport High School 1980, Indiana University 1984, IU Med School 1989

All-Sectional 1977,78,79,80, All Regional 1977, 78,79,80, All-Semi-State 1978,79,80, All-State 1979,80, All-Metro 1977,78,79,80, Indiana All-Star 1980, State Mental Attitude Winner 1980, Marion County Female Athlete of the Year 1980, City-County Female Athlete of Year 1980, Southport Uniform #22 retired and donated to Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame.  At Indiana University varsity letter winner 1982, 83; starting point guard on the IU Women's Big Ten Championship Team; starting pointing guard on the IU Women's Basketball Team that advanced to the Final Sixteen of the NCAA CW Coach of the Year aHHNational Tournament.  Indianapolis/Scarborough Peace Games Girl's Basketball All-Star, 1975,75,77,78,79; AAU Women's Basketball All-American 1981; represented US on the Athletes in Action Women's Basketball team that played national teams in South America 1984, 85.  Inducted in to the Southport High School Wall of Fame 2002, 2005 Silver Anniversary Team.

 

Pat McKee - St. Vincent Silver Medal Award Winner

Pat McKee observes his 26th anniversary as a member of the sports department of The Indianapolis Star in January 2008. With The Star, he has spent a good portion of time covering or supervising those who cover high school sports in Indiana. He has covered many memorable high school athletic events and personalities. During his career, Pat has received numerous professional awards. Among them are awards from the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association, the Indiana High School Athletic Association, the National Federation of State High School Associations and the Indiana Sportswriters & Sportscasters Association. As an avocation, Pat has spent two decades as a volunteer coach and program administrator of non-school youth basketball events. He has earned several state and national awards for this community service. In addition, Pat served as basketball operations committee co-chairman for the 2002 FIBA World Basketball Championship.

Pat is a native of St. Louis and attended the University of Missouri and graduated with honors. He moved to Indiana in 1980, initially as part of an administrative fellowship program with the Indiana Pacers. He later worked for a small paper called Indiana Sports Weekly and joined The Star's staff in January 1982.

 

David Riley - Fort Wayne North Side High School 1953, Ball State BS 1957, MS 1965

Began teaching and coaching career at Adams Grade School in 1957 continued to coach and teach at Franklin Jr. High School 1961-78, went to Fort Wayne Northrop in 1978 and coached boys basketball one year became the Head Girls Coach in 1979 and continued until 1998.  Record as Northrop's Head Varsity Girls Coach of 346-87; won ten SAC Championships, eight sectionals, seven regionals, two semi-states, 2 final fours, and State Championship in 1986, team won the Hall of Fame Classic Tournament in 1987, coached Indiana All Stars in 1991, holds the state's longest winning streak at 57 games.

 

Liz (Skinner) Spencer - Mt. Vernon (Fortville) High School 1978, Butler University BS 1982, DePauw MS 1983  Helped lead Mt. Vernon to four sectionals, three regionals, one semi-state and a runner-up spot to East Chicago Roosevelt in 1977.  Also played softball, volleyball and ran track for the Marauders.  1978 Indiana All-Star; school career record of 1217 points; during senior year averaged 18.4 points and 9.4 rebounds per contest.  At Butler University she was the first 1,000 point scorer in women's basketball, three tie MVP and pulled down over 500 rebounds and over 400 steals; earned two MVP awards in softball and four such awards in volleyball.  Inducted into the Butler Hall of Fame with her sister Barb in 1998.  Silver Anniversary team in 2003.

Debbie (Funkhouser) Trennepohl  - Zionsville High School 1977, Purdue University 1982 At Zionsville High School had 777 career points and 680 career rebounds, was a four- year MVP and a 12 letter winner.  First Boone County female to earn a Big Ten Scholarship to Purdue University, playing all four years, won the Red Mackey award in 1981 and was co-captain.  Started all 32 games as a senior.  Member of the 2002 Silver Anniversary team.  Currently a pharmacist in Monticello, Indiana

 

The Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame Women's Annual Banquet will be held at the Primo (South) Banquet Hall in Indianapolis on Saturday, April 26th, 2008.  Tickets are $45 per seat.
